Halloween 2021 Messenger Filters

This was a set of social filters developed with the company Meister for Facebook's 2021 Halloween filters (through a white-label contract with Meister), under direction of lead developer Matt Tidridge. They all had some element of multipeer functionality in them. So when used in Messenger video calls, users could trigger things in another's instance of the filter. My work on these filters was asset implementation, interaction development, and vfx/shader animation and development. They were a ton of fun!

Uranobyte was the one I spent the most amount of time on. One of the hardest parts of this was getting the TV face right. We landed on a combo of using a face tracked mesh with the face texture mapped onto it with a fresnel alpha falloff, grabbed in a render pass and put through the screen's glitchy shader. Matt T and I were really happy with how it turned out. It's got a very PS2 graphics look to it. Phantasmica was a very fun one conceptually and has a very satisfyingly gooey and glowy aesthetic. ShaderToy was very helpful for finding some base custom shaders to work off for the gooey portal. PlantetX was a bit of a challenge to get the plant creature to feel right on the head (trying to blend them in with the user's head/hair), but I love that little guy and his mini Audrey 2 vibes. I built a system which used proximity to bones on the plant's rig to fake the dynamic AO on the user's head.
